Look for most doughnut places to offer some sort of freebie\/deal. Thanks to <strong>Triangle on the Cheap<\/strong> for reminding us of this national holiday of sorts! <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wral.com\/national-doughnut-day-2020-freebies-and-deals-june-1-5\/19118000\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>WRAL has you covered with all the day&#8217;s offerings<\/strong><\/a>! <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Wake County Restaurant News<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Chubby&#8217;s Tacos<\/strong> will have a soft-opening next week of their <strong>THIRD<\/strong> Triangle-area location in the <strong>Heritage Publix Shopping Center<\/strong> at 1000 Forestville Rd. Look for a Wednesday, June 10th soft opening. Mention <strong>TFG<\/strong> while placing your order, and <strong>receive 20% off<\/strong>! <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/chubbystacos.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Visit Chubby&#8217;s here<\/a><\/strong>. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>The Flying Mayan<\/strong> (which had originally planned to open in December) at 319 Fayetteville Street in the former <strong>Wahlburger\u2019s<\/strong> space, opened this past Wednesday. Billing itself as a place where \u201cthe Southwest meets the Southeast,\u201d <strong>The Flying Mayan<\/strong> specializes in \u201cfresh, made from scratch sauces, salsas, and menu items that have their roots in both regions.\u201d It is being developed by the same team behind the <strong>Flying Burrito<\/strong>, located on Grove Barton Road. <a href=\"http:\/\/flyingmayan.com\/\"><strong>Get familiar with them here<\/strong><\/a>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>A quick update for all the <strong>Cafe Carolina<\/strong> fans around the Triangle \u2013 the <strong>Cameron Village<\/strong> location re-opens today, <strong>Friday, June 5<\/strong>. Their operating hours will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the dining room, outdoor seating, delivery and takeout. The Cary and Chapel Hill locations will re-open at a later date in June. Stay tuned for those announcements. <a href=\"https:\/\/cafecarolina.com\/\"><strong>Visit Cafe Carolina here<\/strong><\/a>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Over in Cary, <strong>David McCreary<\/strong> informed us that a new franchise restaurant will be coming to Cary&#8217;s <strong>Waverly Place<\/strong> soon called <strong>Chicken Salad Chick<\/strong>. They have 104 locations now in 12 southeastern states. No word on an open date. Keep up with their progress <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/ChickenSaladChickCaryNC\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">on their Facebook page here<\/a><\/strong>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Durham, Orange &amp; Chatham Restaurant News<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Australia&#8217;s <strong>Zambrero<\/strong> will open in Durham at <strong>University Hill<\/strong> (3109 Shannon Rd.) on <strong>June 13th<\/strong>. Guests can enjoy an opening offer of bowls and burritos starting at $5 on June 13-15, 2020. This will be their second Triangle location with the original location in Raleigh (temporarily closed due to the current uncertain climate and government restrictions). They offer a healthy superfood menu along with their <strong>Plate 4 Plate<\/strong> program in partnership with <strong>Rise Against Hunger<\/strong>, where with each purchase a meal is donated to someone in need. <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.zambrero.com\/locations\/university-hill\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Visit them here<\/strong><\/a>. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Da Kine\u2019s Kava<\/strong>, owned by husband and wife team <strong>Brent Waffle<\/strong> and <strong>Zoey Best<\/strong>, will open in the <strong>Joe Van Gogh<\/strong> space in the <strong>West End<\/strong> area at 1114 W. Chapel Hill St. (see closings below). The store will be a non-alcoholic bar featuring cocktails made from kava and other herbal alternatives, coffee, kombucha, and teas. No word on a timeline. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dakineskava.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Get to know them here<\/a><\/strong>. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Closings \/ Cancellations<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Morgan Street Food Hall<\/strong> &#8220;terminated the lease&#8221; of <strong>Raleigh Mini Donut Company<\/strong> citing that, &#8220;We take discrimination and verbal abuse very seriously at the <strong>Morgan Street Food Hall<\/strong>. We have a Zero Tolerance Policy for such behavior. The <strong>Morgan Street Food Hall<\/strong> was built on the idea of bringing different cultures, creeds, races coming together to tell their story, through food.&#8221; No word yet on what will fill that space. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Carrie Brogren <\/strong>of <strong>Chapel HIll Carrboro Foodies Facebook group<\/strong> shared the sad news that <strong>James Pharmacy<\/strong> in Hillsborough has closed permanently.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Learned this week that <strong>Market Street Coffee<\/strong>, with locations in Chapel Hill and Carrboro, has made the decision to close both locations permanently as their leases expired. They did hint at the possibility of reopening after this all passes&#8230;but no immediate plans.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Joe Van Gogh<\/strong> coffee shop has closed it&#8217;s location in the <strong>West End<\/strong> area of Durham at 1114 W. Chapel Hill St. &#8211; the lease was up at the end of May. They still have Durham locations on Broad Street and in the <strong>Woodcroft Shopping Center<\/strong> as well as a Raleigh location at <strong>Cedar West<\/strong> and a location in Chapel Hill&#8217;s <strong>Timberlyne Shopping Center<\/strong> (as well as two locations in Greensboro). <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.joevangogh.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Visit Joe Van Gogh here<\/strong><\/a>. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>And sad to report that the inaugural <strong>Buxton Hall Barbecue\u2019s<\/strong> <strong>Smokeshow Festival<\/strong> in Asheville has been canceled. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Food Trucks&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Here are a &nbsp;couple of sites to find and stalk your favorite food trucks <a href=\"https:\/\/roaminghunger.com\/food-trucks\/nc\/raleigh-durham\/\"><strong>here<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/streetfoodfinder.com\/c\/NC\/Raleigh\"><strong>here<\/strong><\/a>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Events<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Let&#8217;s do it again! There will also be lots of music and entertainment at this child and pet friendly event. Admission is free and parking on the street is as well. The event features food &amp; beer, music, arts &amp; crafts, a KidZone, contests and a petting zoo. A great way to spend time with 7,000 of your closest friends. Admission is free! <a href=\"http:\/\/festinthewest.com\/\"><strong>Get all the details here<\/strong><\/a>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Thanks to <strong>Triangle On The Cheap<\/strong>, here are some updates on event cancellations and rescheduling: <strong>PeakFest in Apex<\/strong> was rescheduled to September 19; <strong>Meet in the Street Festival<\/strong> in Wake Forest was rescheduled to September 5; <strong>Artsplosure<\/strong> in downtown Raleigh was rescheduled to October 10 and 11; and the <strong>Pimento Cheese Festival<\/strong> in Cary has been canceled.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Food Bank Corner<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The <strong>Food Bank of Central &amp; Eastern North Carolin<\/strong>a is providing free <strong>Grab-&amp;-Go Meals for Kids &amp; Teens<\/strong> Monday through Friday 11am \u2013 1pm at the <strong>K&amp;W Cafeteria<\/strong> located at 3620 Bastion Lane, Raleigh NC 27604. Children do not have to be present with you to pick up meals, and you will not be required to show ID. Food will be distributed by volunteers at curbside and social distancing will be practiced.
