The much-anticipated annual &#8220;ranking&#8221; of area restaurants by the <strong>News &amp; Observer&#8217;s Greg Cox<\/strong> &#8211; including the restaurant of the year. No spoiler alert here, you&#8217;ll have to click through to see this year&#8217;s list, and winner. I&#8217;ll have to say, <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.newsobserver.com\/2015\/01\/29\/4511518_2015-best-restaurants-in-the-triangle.html?rh=1\" target=\"_blank\" shape=\"rect\">it is hard to argue with this list<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Wake County Restaurant News<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0And here is one more great read for you. Looks like the <strong>New York Times<\/strong> is following <strong>Andrea Weigl&#8217;s<\/strong> lead and has a great article on the &#8220;sisterhood&#8221; of great female chefs, and farmers, in North Carolina and specifically here in the Triangle. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2015\/01\/28\/dining\/a-food-sisterhood-flourishes-in-north-carolina.html?smid=fb-share&amp;_r=1\" target=\"_blank\" shape=\"rect\">Take a moment to read this piece<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>News &amp; Observer<\/strong> reported this week that Glenwood South&#8217;s <strong>The Rockford<\/strong> closed temporarily this past Tuesday to revamp their menu. They will reopen next week (<strong>February 3rd<\/strong>). <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.therockfordrestaurant.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" shape=\"rect\">Check them out here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Our friends over at <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NewRaleigh\" target=\"_blank\" shape=\"rect\">New Raleigh<\/a><\/span><\/strong> reported this week that downtown Raleigh is getting a new gastropub called <strong>Whiskey Kitchen<\/strong>. It will be located adjacent to Nash Square in the &#8220;White Horse&#8221; building. Nothing much on <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/whiskey-kitchen.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" shape=\"rect\">their website<\/a><\/span><\/strong> or <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/WhiskeyKitchenRaleigh\" target=\"_blank\" shape=\"rect\">Facebook page<\/a><\/span><\/strong> yet.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Rise Biscuits and Donuts<\/strong>, which opened in 2012 near the <strong>Streets of Southpoint<\/strong> in Durham, announced this week that their first franchise location would open this summer in Morrisville&#8217;s <strong>Park West Village shopping center<\/strong>. We will keep an eye on an exact opening date once it is known. Look for additional franchise location announcements in the next month. In the meantime, <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/risebiscuitsdonuts.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" shape=\"rect\">check out Rise here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>News &amp; Observer<\/strong> reported this week that <strong>Diana and Oliver Yu<\/strong> are targeting February15 for the opening of <strong>Goji Bistro<\/strong> in Cary&#8217;s <strong>Maynard Crossing Shopping Center<\/strong> in the former <strong>Neo-Asia<\/strong> space, which the <strong>Yus<\/strong> also operated (the original <strong>Neo-Asia<\/strong> on Raleigh&#8217;s Glenwood Avenue remains unchanged). <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/gojibistronc\" target=\"_blank\" shape=\"rect\">Get a peek at Goji on Facebook here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Got word from <strong>David McCreary<\/strong> (aka <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.lunchboysays.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" shape=\"rect\">Lunchboy Says<\/a><\/span><\/strong>) that a new restaurant has opened in Fuquay-Varina called <strong>Kumo Sushi Hibachi<\/strong>. It is located at 2915 N. Main Street. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/kumosusirestraunt\" target=\"_blank\" shape=\"rect\">Check out their Facebook page here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Durham, Orange &amp; Chatham County Restaurant News<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The Durham<\/strong>, a boutique 53-room hotel in downtown Durham (315 E. Chapel Hill Street) will open this spring according to the <strong>News &amp; Observer<\/strong>. That alone is pretty cool. But what makes it suave cool, is that Chapel Hill&#8217;s <strong>Andrea Reusing<\/strong> (i.e. <strong>Lantern<\/strong>) has teamed up with the developers to open a ground level restaurant and roof-top bar. Now that makes that hotel! We&#8217;ll keep an eye out for the exact open date.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>Triangle Business Journal<\/strong> is reporting that beginning next week, February 3rd to be exact, Durham will have a &#8220;Hot Now&#8221; light flashing at 3536 Hillsborough Road as <strong>Krispy Kreme<\/strong> opens up its newest location. Remember, the first 100 people through the doors get &#8220;donuts for a year.&#8221; If interested, you might want to make plans to camp out. This location is the former site of <strong>George&#8217;s Diner<\/strong> and before that, <strong>Miami Subs Grill<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Closings<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Reader <strong>Sammi Hilliard<\/strong> tipped us off to the fact that <strong>One Whirled Caf\u00e9<\/strong> in Wake Forest has closed their doors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>News &amp; Observer<\/strong> is reporting that March 27th or 29th will be the last day for Ninth Street&#8217;s <strong>Charlie&#8217;s Pub &amp; Grill<\/strong> over in Durham.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Food Trucks<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Reader <strong>Chris Hansen<\/strong> dialed me into the fact that <strong>Charlie Hamaty<\/strong>, the owner of the two <strong>Charlie&#8217;s Kabob Grill<\/strong> locations in Wake Forest, now has a food truck &#8211; <strong>Charlie&#8217;s Kabob Grill&#8230;On Wheels! <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.charlieskabobgrill.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" shape=\"rect\">Check him out here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Events<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>Chinese New Year<\/strong> is upon us and apparently it is the year of the Goat! And on <strong>Saturday January 31<\/strong>, at the <strong>Dorton Arena<\/strong> in Raleigh, the <strong>Triangle Chinese American Society of North Carolina<\/strong> will hold the <strong>2015 Chinese New Year Festival<\/strong>. Tickets are $5 in advance, $8 at the door. Kids 6 years and under are free! They will host a <strong>Commemorative Chefs&#8217; Event<\/strong> beginning at 6:30 with a four-course wine-pairing dinner celebrating the cuisine of their executive chefs through the years including <strong>Brian Stapleton<\/strong>, <strong>Jimmy Reale<\/strong> and current executive chef <strong>James Clark<\/strong>.
