So, <strong>USA Today<\/strong> compiled a list of what they think are the cities with the <strong>\u201cbest local food scene.\u201d<\/strong> Now, they are counting on you to get the list in the right order. Currently <strong>Raleigh is in 6th place<\/strong> (behind Asheville &#8211; we can\u2019t let that happen). <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.10best.com\/awards\/travel\/best-local-food-scene\/raleigh-n-c\/\" target=\"_blank\">Go here to vote<\/a><\/span><\/strong>&#8230;and vote often! Seriously, what are you waiting on? Why haven\u2019t you voted (it is anonymous)?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Wake County Restaurant News<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div>\u00a0Got word this week, and confirmed through several sources, that <strong>La Farm Bakery<\/strong> over in Cary is expanding into the space next to them. No word yet on a timeline or what changes the expansion might bring. Happy to see a local bakery enjoying so much success! <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lafarmbakery.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Check out LaFarm here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div>\n<div>It is going to happen. Seriously, it really is going to happen. Saw in <strong>Ashton Mae Smith\u2019s<\/strong> weekly email (and confirmed on <strong>Scott Crawford\u2019s<\/strong> Twitter account) that <strong>Standard Foods Restaurant &amp; Grocery<\/strong> (205 E. Franklin Street in Raleigh) will be training their staff toward the end of August and they are shooting for an early September opening. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/standardfoodsnc\" target=\"_blank\">Keep up to date on their Facebook page here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div>\n<div>The <strong>News &amp; Observer<\/strong> reported some of the retail tenants in the recently opened <strong>SkyHouse Raleigh apartment building<\/strong> located at the corner of East Martin and South Blount streets in downtown Raleigh. One of the spots will be filled with a dining concept called <strong>Provenance<\/strong> owned by chef <strong>Teddy Klopf<\/strong>. They are expected to open in mid-November. <strong>Larry\u2019s Beans Coffee Company<\/strong> will occupy one of the other spots. They are looking to open in the first quarter of 2016.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div>\n<div><strong>WRAL<\/strong> reported this week that <strong>Virgilio&#8217;s\u00a0Premium\u00a0Vinegars,\u00a0Oils\u00a0&amp;\u00a0Edibles<\/strong> is moving from their current location on White Street in Wake Forest to a spot just down the street in <strong>The Factory<\/strong>, next to Lilly Mae\u2019s. They will open there on September 1st. Until then, you can continue to visit their current location (but please note they will be closed Aug. 1 through Aug. 10). <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.virgiliosvinegarnoil.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Get more information here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div>\n<div>Got word from <strong>Heather Black<\/strong> that <strong>Los Tres Magueyes<\/strong> is opening another location, this one in Apex in the former <strong>Pizza Inn<\/strong> spot at 1301 E. Williams Street. When it opens, it will be the 5th Triangle area location. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.lostres-nc.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Check out their website here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div>\n<div>This is pretty cool and another example of why we live in such a great spot for dining out. This Saturday <strong>The Chef\u2019s Academy<\/strong> in Morrisville will award degrees to 72 graduates of its culinary arts and pastry arts programs, with many assuming positions in various kitchens throughout the Triangle. Congratulations graduates! <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/thechefsacademy.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Learn more about The Chef&#8217;s Academy here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div>And speaking of <strong>The Chef\u2019s Academy<\/strong>, <strong>Mike Santos<\/strong> is teaming up with Raleigh restaurant owner <strong>Jon Seelbinder<\/strong> to open <strong>Linus &amp; Pepper\u2019s<\/strong>, a pop-up sandwich shop in a downstairs area of <strong>Seelbinder\u2019s Level Up Restaurant + Barcadium<\/strong> at 126 S. Salisbury Street. The pop-up will teach students everything they need to know about developing a menu and starting and operating a caf\u00e9, so the menu should be very interesting and fun. They plan to operate from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. seven days a week until it closes Aug. 24, although that date might move, so stay tuned.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div>Got word that the <strong>Penn Station East Coast Subs<\/strong> in Cary has opened at 700 Cary Towne Boulevard in Cary. The shopping center used to be <strong>Cole Park Plaza<\/strong>, but is now <strong>North Chatham Village<\/strong>. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/friendsguanajuato\" target=\"_blank\">Visit them on Facebook here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Closings\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>Triangle Business Journal<\/strong> reported that this past Monday Raleigh restaurateur <strong>Lou Moshakos<\/strong> and his team at <strong>LM Restaurants<\/strong> closed the company&#8217;s last remaining fast-food restaurant location, <strong>New Bern Subs<\/strong> in east Raleigh.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Heather Black<\/strong> notified us that the <strong>Rudino\u2019s Sports Porch<\/strong> on Williams Street in Apex has closed their doors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Got word from <strong>WRAL<\/strong> that the <strong>Baba Ghannouj<\/strong> at 14460 New Falls Of Neuse Rd has closed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>And saw on <strong>Triangle Explorer\u2019s<\/strong> twitter feed that <strong>Big Apple Bagels<\/strong> in the <strong>Falls River Town Center<\/strong> in North Raleigh has closed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Food Trucks\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div>Go ahead and mark your calendar for the next two big food truck rodeo&#8217;s in <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.downtownraleighfoodtruckrodeo.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" shape=\"rect\">downtown Raleigh<\/a><\/span><\/strong> and <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/durhamcentralpark.org\/events\/food-truck-rodeo-info\/\" target=\"_blank\" shape=\"rect\">downtown Durham<\/a><\/span><\/strong>. It simply can\u2019t be missed. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/terravitaevent.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Get details on all the events around this festival here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Got word from my friend <strong>John Huisman<\/strong> (aka <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/triangleexplorer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" shape=\"rect\">Triangle Explorer<\/a><\/span><\/strong>) that tickets are on sale now for <strong>Beericana<\/strong>, a craft beer &amp; music festival in Holly Springs on <strong>September 12<\/strong>. <strong>Beericana<\/strong> is in its\u00a0second year and all signs point to it being even better than last year. The festival\u00a0will feature over\u00a060 breweries from\u00a0across the state and beyond, more food trucks than last year with at least\u00a020 trucks. General admission tickets are $45 and VIP tickets are $75. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.beericana.com\" target=\"_blank\" shape=\"rect\">Get all the details and information on tickets here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>Beer, Bourbon and BBQ Festival<\/strong> is back again this year at Cary&#8217;s <strong>Koka Booth Amphitheatre July 31 through August 1<\/strong>. I think the title of this event gives you a pretty good idea of what it is all about, but if you need more details, <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.beerandbourbon.com\/cary\/show-info\" target=\"_blank\" shape=\"rect\">check them out here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Kimbap&#8217;s Kim Hunter<\/strong> is hosting a three-course dinner with beer and wine pairings on Monday, <strong>August 3rd<\/strong> at 4:30 p.m. to benefit <strong>In Good Heart Farm<\/strong> in Clayton. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.eventbrite.com\/e\/chimaek-in-good-heart-farm-what-could-be-better-tickets-17769680593\" target=\"_blank\" shape=\"rect\">Get all the details and purchase tickets here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Go ahead and mark your calendar for <strong>Downtown Raleigh Restaurant Week<\/strong>, which will be held <strong>August 17th &#8211; Sunday, August 23rd<\/strong>. It has expanded this year to include lunch menus and a <strong>Do-It-Yourself Progressive Dinner option<\/strong>. This option will encourage patrons to visit a different restaurant for each course on a tantalizing tour of downtown dining. Participating dining establishments will offer three-course prix fixe dinners for either $20 or $30 per person, $5 or $10 lunch menus, and\/or a special appetizer, entr\u00e9e, or dessert for the Progressive Dinner option, depending on the venue. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.godowntownraleigh.com\/restaurant-week\" target=\"_blank\" shape=\"rect\">Get all the details here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Midtown Grille<\/strong> executive chef <strong>Benjamin Harris<\/strong> came to Raleigh from Charleston, South Carolina. So the recent events there hit pretty close to home. So on Sunday, <strong>August 23rd<\/strong> he will host a chef collaboration event called <strong>North Cooks South<\/strong> to raise money for the <strong>Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church<\/strong> in Charleston. Joining <strong>Harris<\/strong> will be Charleston\u2019s<strong> Daniel Doyle<\/strong> (<strong>Poogan\u2019s Porch<\/strong>), Charlotte\u2019s <strong>Chris Coleman<\/strong> (<strong>The Asbury\/Dunhill Hotel<\/strong>) and Raleigh\u2019s <strong>Scott James<\/strong> (executive sous chef at<strong> The Angus Barn<\/strong>).
