As you might remember, they were the winners of the most recent season of the Food Network\u2019s \u201cThe Great Food Truck Race.\u201d We will keep an eye on this for you. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.phonomenaldumplings.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Check them out here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Wake County Restaurant News<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div>While we were sad to learn that <strong>The Borough<\/strong> would be closing at the end of this month, we were excited to learn that a new concept called <strong>Hadley\u2019s<\/strong> will open in that space, after closing for a month for renovations. They plan to reopen the first week of March. A sandwich-and-soup shop with cocktails, <strong>Hadley&#8217;s<\/strong> will aim to retain some of <strong>The Borough&#8217;s<\/strong> best traits. <strong>Indy Week<\/strong> has a great write-up on the impact <strong>The Borough<\/strong> had on downtown Raleigh and the plans for <strong>Hadley\u2019s<\/strong>. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.indyweek.com\/food\/archives\/2016\/01\/06\/the-borough-steps-out-hadleys-steps-in-the-owners-behind-a-raleigh-restaurant-switch-discuss-whats-next\" target=\"_blank\">Read it here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>. Martin St. downtown, next door to Fox Liquor Bar. No word yet on a timeline.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div>Also excited to report that Glenwood South\u2019s popular coffee hang-out <strong>Cafe Helios<\/strong> will reopen later this month as&#8230;.you guessed it&#8230;<strong>Cafe Helios<\/strong>. Obviously it is revamped and under new ownership, but excited to have this option back in my rotation. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/cafehelios.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Not much yet there, but here is their website.<\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div>\u201cAny day now\u201d is the word from the <strong>News &amp; Observer<\/strong> on the opening of chef <strong>Teddy Klopf\u2019s Provenance<\/strong> restaurant on the first floor of the new Skyhouse luxury apartment building on East Martin Street in downtown Raleigh. <strong>Klopf<\/strong> describes the restaurant as \u201crefined new Southern cuisine in a contemporary, casual setting.\u201d He previously worked at <strong>McCrady\u2019s<\/strong> in Charleston, S.C., and <strong>The Umstead Hotel and Spa<\/strong> in Cary. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/provenanceraleigh.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Check them out here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div><strong>Napper Tandy\u2019s<\/strong> on Glenwood Avenue in downtown Raleigh is currently closed for renovations according to <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/NapperTandys\" target=\"_blank\">their Facebook page<\/a><\/span><\/strong>. No word on when they will reopen or what the renovations entail. We will keep an eye on it.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div>Also in downtown Raleigh, <strong>Triangle Business Journal<\/strong> reported that <strong>The Hive<\/strong>, a late-night club above the <strong>Busy Bee<\/strong> at 225 S. Wilmington St., has closed and will reopen as <strong>Mash &amp; Lauter<\/strong>, a Belgian inspired concept with a focus on a new food menu that will feature local products meant to pair and complement both bottled and draft beers. Keep up with the changes on <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/TheBusyBeeCafe\/?fref=nf\" target=\"_blank\">their Facebook page here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div>A little more information was revealed on <strong>Gary Bryant\u2019s<\/strong> effort on the former <strong>Varsity Theater<\/strong> spot on Hillsborough Street in Raleigh. <strong>Bryant<\/strong> is joined by chef <strong>Adam Rose<\/strong> on this project and it was revealed in December that it will be called <strong>H-Street Kitchen<\/strong>. It is still too early for an exact open date (other than Spring 2016), but the restaurant is taking shape nicely. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.hstreetkitchen.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Keep an eye on it here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div>It was announced today, January 8th, that <strong>Midtown Grille<\/strong> has a new executive chef. <strong>John Childers<\/strong>, who has been the chef de cuisine at <strong>Heron&#8217;s at the Umstead<\/strong>, will take over the kitchen next Monday. Former chef <strong>Ben Harris<\/strong> returns to Charleston to assume the position of executive chef at <strong>Poogan\u2019s Porch<\/strong>. He was chef de cuisine there prior to coming up to <strong>Midtown Grille<\/strong>. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.themidtowngrille.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Check out Midtown Grille here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div>Up in North Raleigh, the <strong>Triangle Business Journal<\/strong> is reporting that following its entry into Cary last year, <strong>Duck Donuts<\/strong> is opening a second Triangle location at 8323 Creedmoor Road in the Kroger-anchored <strong>Towne North shopping center<\/strong>, just south of Strickland Road. The Facebook page is still listing a mid-January opening. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/duckdonuts.RaleighNC\" target=\"_blank\">Check that page out here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div>Also in North Raleigh, the <strong>Triangle Business Journal<\/strong> is reporting that the owner of the Triangle&#8217;s only <strong>Toppers Pizza<\/strong> restaurant in Chapel Hill has formed a new partnership to expand the brand into north Raleigh later this year. They are actively looking for at least three new locations between the Glenwood Avenue and Capital Boulevard corridors in north Raleigh over the next three years. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.toppers.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Check out Toppers here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div>Over in Cary, the owners of <strong>Cafe Caturra<\/strong> in Cary\u2019s <strong>Stone Creek Village<\/strong> have closed the wine bar and plan to open the Triangle\u2019s second <strong>Tazza Kitchen<\/strong> in its place. They did a similar makeover with the former <strong>Cafe Caturra<\/strong> in Raleigh\u2019s <strong>Cameron Village<\/strong> which is also a <strong>Tazza<\/strong> now. <strong>Tazza\u2019s<\/strong> menu is inspired by the rustic outdoor cooking of southern Italy and Baja California. Construction is set to begin in the next few weeks, with a target opening of mid-spring. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/tazzakitchen.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Check out Tazza here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div>Also in Cary, <strong>David McCreary<\/strong> (aka <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.lunchboysays.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Lunch Boy Says<\/a><\/span><\/strong>) confirmed that <strong>Bellini Fine Italian Cuisine<\/strong> has opened in their new location at <strong>MacGregor Shopping Center<\/strong> in Cary. <strong>Bellini\u2019s<\/strong> moved from Fuquay Varina. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/bellinifineitaliancuisinefuquay.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Check them out here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div>The owners of a Holly Springs\u2019 <strong>My Way Tavern<\/strong> have opened their second location, in Raleigh at 522 St. Mary\u2019s Street, in the former <strong>Ciago\u2019s<\/strong> location, near the Glenwood hospitality district. The <strong>My Way Tavern<\/strong> menu includes a variety of freshly made all-American foods such as appetizers salads, soups, burgers, sandwiches and entr\u00e9es. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/mywaytavern.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">You can check them out here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div>And down in Garner, got word from <strong>Hugh Autry<\/strong> that <strong>Larry\u2019s Southern Kitchen<\/strong> moved into the old <strong>Mayflower<\/strong> space at 4205 Fayetteville Road across from WalMart. You can <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pages\/Larrys-Southern-Kitchen\/115599881795788\" target=\"_blank\">check them out on Facebook here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Durham, Orange &amp; Chatham County Restaurant News<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0Thanks to the <strong>News &amp; Observer<\/strong> we got two updates on happenings over at the <strong>American Tobacco<\/strong> complex in downtown Durham. <strong>Nana\u2019s Scott Howell<\/strong> has announced that he hopes to open <strong>Nanasteak<\/strong> by <strong>February 1st<\/strong>. We couldn\u2019t find a website for them, so in the meantime, <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nanasdurham.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">check out Nana&#8217;s here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Also in <strong>American Tobacco<\/strong> complex,<strong> Tyler Huntington<\/strong>, owner of multiple <strong>Tyler\u2019s Taproom<\/strong> locations in the Triangle, will be opening a \u201cbiscuit and barbecue concept\u201d this spring. No word yet on the name or official open date. We will keep an eye on it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Also in Durham, the <strong>News &amp; Observer<\/strong> provided an update that the long-anticipated collaboration on a new barbecue joint (called <strong>Picnic<\/strong>), between former <strong>Piedmont<\/strong> chef <strong>Ben Adams<\/strong>, caterer <strong>Wyatt Dickson<\/strong> and farmer <strong>Ryan Butler,<\/strong> will open in early February. It will be located in northwest Durham at 1647 Cole Mill Road. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/picnicdurham\/\" target=\"_blank\">Check them out on Facebook here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The folks over at <strong>Bites of Bull City<\/strong> provided a nice article on the soon-to-open sushi joint in downtown Durham at 311 Holland Street called <strong>M Sushi<\/strong>. Look for them to open on <strong>January 19th<\/strong>. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bitesofbullcity.blogspot.com\/2016\/01\/pre-opening-q-with-m-sushi.html\" target=\"_blank\">Check out the full interview here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>News &amp; Observer<\/strong> also gave us a quick update on the next two locations of <strong>Rise Biscuits &amp; Doughnuts<\/strong>. One will open in the old <strong>Daisy Cakes<\/strong> place in Durham in February. And over in Carrboro, it will open by mid-February. That location is owned by <strong>Rick Robinson<\/strong>, former <strong>Mondo Bistro<\/strong> chef and owner who has returned to the Triangle, and his colleague <strong>Ken Priest<\/strong>. The store\u2019s general manager will be <strong>Silvia Pahola<\/strong>, who worked for many years at James Beard Award-winning chef <strong>Andrea Reusing\u2019s<\/strong> restaurant,<strong> Lantern<\/strong> in Chapel Hill.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Over in Hillsborough, the <strong>News &amp; Observer<\/strong> reported that the <strong>Hot Tin Roof<\/strong> bar plans to add a kitchen and start serving sandwiches, subs, hot dogs and burgers by early March. Additionally, one of the bar\u2019s owners, John Bland, also plans to open two more restaurants this year in downtown Hillsborough: a white-tablecloth steakhouse and a more casual restaurant with a banquet space. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.hottinroofbar.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Check Hot Tin Roof out here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>News &amp; Observer<\/strong> also reported that <strong>Mystery Brewing Co.<\/strong> owner <strong>Erik Lars Myers<\/strong> hopes to add a restaurant in his taproom by the brewery\u2019s fourth anniversary in early May. <strong>Myers<\/strong> said it will offer more varied pub fare from Belgian frites to lighter, fresher food including vegetarian options. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mysterybrewing.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Check them out here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Closings<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Liz Maznik<\/strong> made the difficult decision to close <strong>The Borough<\/strong> in downtown Raleigh at the end of this month. But the good news is a new concept has already been announced and plans to reopen in early March. See the details above.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Learned from <strong>WRAL<\/strong> over the holidays that <strong>Battistella&#8217;s<\/strong> has closed their doors in downtown Raleigh\u2019s <strong>City Market<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>WRAL<\/strong> reported that <strong>McDaids Irish Pub<\/strong> on Hillsborough Street in Raleigh closed last Friday.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The Hive<\/strong>, a late-night club above the <strong>Busy Bee<\/strong> at 225 S. Wilmington St. in downtown Raleigh, has closed. The <strong>Busy Bee<\/strong> continues as normal. See the story above about the changes coming to that spot.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Was sad to learn over the holidays that after 3 years of establishing a very cool concept and brand, that <strong>Bill, Chas and Dan Morgenstern<\/strong> decided to close all locations of <strong>Firewurst<\/strong>. My best to the three of them. Nicest family you\u2019ll ever meet.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>I was first tipped off by <strong>Kevin Donnelly<\/strong> that the <strong>Cafe Caturra<\/strong> in Cary has closed their doors. See the story above as to who will replace them in that location.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Over in Durham, learned from the <strong>Burgeoning Baker<\/strong> (and confirmed on <strong>Yelp<\/strong>) that <strong>Brightleaf\u2019s Chamas<\/strong> has closed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>After 9 years, Carrboro\u2019s <strong>Southern Rail<\/strong> closed their doors. No word yet on what might go in that space.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Over in Chapel Hill, Franklin Street&#8217;s <strong>Fitzgerald&#8217;s Irish Pub<\/strong> has closed. Apparently a new sports concept will be taking over that space. We will keep an eye on it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Food Trucks<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div>It won\u2019t be long before the weather starts turning warm and food truck rodeos start dotting our calendars again. To help you get in the mood, here are some important dates to go ahead and get on your calendar.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div>The <strong>Downtown Raleigh Food Truck Rodeo<\/strong> has announced its dates for this year: <strong>May 1, June 12, Aug. 7 and Oct. 9<\/strong>. The event will feature more than 30 top local chefs and establishments in Durham, Chapel Hill, Carrboro and Raleigh. A portion of ticket proceeds will be donated to the <strong>Durham Branch of the Food Bank of Central &amp; Eastern North Carolina<\/strong>.
