The <strong>News &amp; Observer\u2019s Greg Cox<\/strong> has released his annual \u201creview\u201d of the Triangle dining scene &#8211; awarding the <strong>\u201cRestaurant of the Year\u201d<\/strong> as well as his list of the best restaurants in the area for 2016. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.newsobserver.com\/entertainment\/restaurants\/article56834863.html\" target=\"_blank\">Let me know what you think<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Wake County Restaurant News<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div>Got word this week from <strong>John Huisman<\/strong> (aka <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/triangleexplorer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Triangle Explorer<\/a><\/span><\/strong>) that the north Raleigh location of <strong>Duck Donuts<\/strong> has opened at 8323 Creedmoor Road in the <strong>Towne North<\/strong> shopping center. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/duckdonuts.RaleighNC\" target=\"_blank\">Check them out on Facebook here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div>During last week\u2019s ice storm, a vehicle lost control and slammed into <strong>Ole Time BBQ<\/strong> in Raleigh. Thankfully, no one was hurt, but the damage has closed this legendary establishment until repairs can be completed. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gofundme.com\/qszau758\" target=\"_blank\">Please consider supporting the restaurant and its employees during this time<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div>The good folks over at <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/raleighwhatsup.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">RaleighWhatsUp<\/a><\/span><\/strong> gave us the heads up that a new Italian eatery is coming to the <strong>Brier Creek<\/strong> area. <strong>Positalia<\/strong>, a concept out of Wilmington, confirmed they are in fact opening a location here. Go ahead and get familiar with them <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bepositalia.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>, and we will keep an eye on their opening date.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div>We got word this week from reader <strong>Jill Anderson<\/strong>, that the Hillsborough Street and North Hills locations of <strong>Saxby\u2019s<\/strong> had closed. And thanks to a little help from <strong>Dana McCall<\/strong> over at <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.gogoraleigh.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">GoGoRaleigh<\/a><\/span><\/strong>, we learned that <strong>Crepe Traditions<\/strong> will replace the North Hills location. <strong>Jill<\/strong> also confirmed that a crepe place will replace the Hillsborough location as well, although we can\u2019t 100% confirm that that will also be a <strong>Crepe Traditions<\/strong> (but a logical conclusion would suggest that). Check out <strong>Crepe Traditions<\/strong>, which has a location in Chapel Hill, <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.crepetraditions.com\/home.html\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div>Over in Cary, reader <strong>Fonny Lo<\/strong> tipped us off to the fact that <strong>East Garden Restaurant<\/strong> over off Walnut Street (next to the <strong>Egg &amp; I<\/strong>) opened this week. Unfortunately, I can\u2019t find a web presence for them. You\u2019ll just have to swing by and check it out.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div>Our catering friends over at <strong>Donovan\u2019s Dish<\/strong> (<strong>chef TJ and Jill<\/strong>) announced this week that they are moving from their location on Buck Jones Road to to the <strong>Old Sweet Memories<\/strong> space at 800 W. Williams St in Apex. The new location will have a retail storefront of chef prepared meals to go, fresh salads by the pound, hors d&#8217;oeuvres and seasonal items as well as local NC goods and specialty items. Look for them to be up and running in the new space by the middle of next week. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/donovansdish.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Check out Donovan&#8217;s Dish here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div>And in downtown Raleigh, the <strong>Triangle Business Journal<\/strong> reported that <strong>Samad Hachby<\/strong>, the owner of <strong>Babylon<\/strong>, has completed a renovation that virtually turns the single restaurant into two. The indoor portion will feature Moroccan style food with a French twist and the outdoor portion will feature a more Mediterranean feel, what <strong>Hachby<\/strong> hopes will feel like a cafe on a Greek island or in the south of Italy. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.babylonraleigh.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Check Babylon out here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Durham, Orange &amp; Chatham County Restaurant News<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0Saw in the <strong>Indy<\/strong> that the former <strong>Southern Rail<\/strong> in Carrboro will become the latest venture for <strong>Andrew Moore<\/strong>, owner of the nearby restaurant <strong>Venable<\/strong>. He will convert the space into a barbecue joint called <strong>CrossTies Barbecue<\/strong>. They will serve authentic Carolina \u2018que with all the fixin\u2019s and feature a variety of smoked meats in a full service menu that features appetizers, salads, entrees and desserts. He hopes to have it open by early May. He also announced that he will reopen <strong>The Station<\/strong>, hoping to do so by mid-March. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/CrossTies-BBQ-894113744041762\/\" target=\"_blank\">Keep up with CrossTies on their Facebook page<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Our friends over at <strong>Bites of Bull City<\/strong> did a nice feature this week on the opening of the Durham location of <strong>Guasaca<\/strong> which opened this past week in the plaza at 2200 W. Main Street in Durham. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/bitesofbullcity.blogspot.com\/2016\/01\/guasaca-arepas-arrive-in-durham.html\" target=\"_blank\">Check out the feature here<\/a><\/span><\/strong> and visit the Guasaca <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/guasaca.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">website here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Over in Chapel Hill, got word from <strong>@Burgeoningbaker<\/strong> that <strong>Jenny Li<\/strong> has opened <strong>Red Pepper,<\/strong> a Chinese restaurant offering traditional Szechuan dishes, in the former <strong>Cafe 35<\/strong> space on East Franklin Street near <strong>Eastgate Shopping Center<\/strong>. We couldn\u2019t find a website, but here is <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/red-pepper-chapel-hill-2\" target=\"_blank\">her Yelp listing<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The new Asian bistro called <strong>Moon Asian Bistro<\/strong> is now open in the northern end of Chatham County just off 15-501 in the <strong>Polk Landing<\/strong> shopping center, about 4 miles outside of Chapel Hill. I can\u2019t find a site for it, but <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/moon-asian-bistro-chapel-hill\" target=\"_blank\">here it is on Yelp<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Over in Durham I got word that construction is under way for the next location of <strong>Happy + Hale<\/strong>, which has its flagship shop on Raleigh\u2019s <strong>City Plaza<\/strong>. This second location will be at 703 Ninth Street. Keep up with their progress <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/happyandhaleninthstreet\/\" target=\"_blank\">on their Facebook page here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Also in Durham, saw on a <strong>Yelp<\/strong> message board that there is a &#8216;coming soon&#8217; sign for <strong>Jimmy&#8217;s Famous Hot Dogs<\/strong> at the former <strong>Waffle House<\/strong> near the intersection of highways 54 and 55 in Durham. Stay tuned.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Closings<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0The social media world \u201cblew up\u201d this week once word got out that <strong>Belle at the Jones House<\/strong>, a restaurant that opened in 2014 along Academy Street in downtown Cary, had closed indefinitely after being seized for failure to pay taxes, according to the N.C. Department of Revenue.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Not long after that, a similar sign appeared on the doors of <strong>Cafe de los Muertos<\/strong> on Hargett Street in downtown Raleigh. While <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/cafemuertos\/\" target=\"_blank\">their Facebook page<\/a><\/span><\/strong> confirmed they are currently closed, it suggests have worked things out and will reopen in 2-4 days. Stay tuned!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>And we confirmed this week, thanks to a tip from reader <strong>Jill Anderson<\/strong>, that <strong>Saxby\u2019s<\/strong> has closed both their Hillsborough Street and North Hills locations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Food Trucks<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div>The first <strong>Durham Central Park food truck rodeo<\/strong>, appropriately named Winter Rodeo, <strong>has been postponed<\/strong> due to last week&#8217;s ice\/snow to this Sunday, <strong>January 31<\/strong>. Same time, from 12-4 at <strong>Durham Central Park<\/strong> and will feature 50+ trucks. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/durhamcentralpark.org\/events\/food-truck-rodeo-info\/\" target=\"_blank\" shape=\"rect\">Get all the details here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div>The <strong>Downtown Raleigh Food Truck Rodeo<\/strong> has announced its dates for this year: <strong>May 1, June 12, Aug. 7 and Oct. 9<\/strong>. Ballentine Street) as part of the <strong>4<\/strong><strong>th<\/strong><strong> Annual Community Arts Festival<\/strong>. Head bartender, <strong>Taylor Homes,<\/strong> will host guest bartenders the last Saturday of every month from midnight to 2am, and together, they\u2019ll offer a one-night-only cocktail menu beginning at midnight. Chef de Cuisine <strong>Bret Edlund<\/strong> and Head Butcher <strong>Steve Goff<\/strong> will take their cue from the cocktails, and serve an adventurous late-night menu to nosh on while the drinks flow.
