So get ready to fill up your calendar with <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/triangleexplorer.com\/2016\/02\/26\/triangle-festivals-events-spring-2016\/\" target=\"_blank\">a long list of upcoming foodie events<\/a><\/span><\/strong>!<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Wake County Restaurant News<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div><strong>Lisa Jeffries<\/strong> over at <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dtrnews.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Downtown Raleigh News<\/a><\/span><\/strong> reported this week that <strong>Raleigh Roadhouse<\/strong>, a bar-b-q and live music concept, will open in the lower level of the <strong>510 Glenwood building<\/strong>, which formerly housed <strong>Hi 5, Draft<\/strong>, and most recently <strong>The Oakz<\/strong>. <strong>Bobby Glass<\/strong> and <strong>Shaefer O&#8217;Neil<\/strong>, partners in the <strong>510 Tavern<\/strong>, are collaborating <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.raleighroadhouse.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">on the new venue<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div>The <strong>News &amp; Observer<\/strong> reported this week that <strong>Hadley&#8217;s<\/strong>, the Lost Generation-inspired restaurant and bar that took over <strong>The Borough<\/strong> space in downtown Raleigh, is now open. The restaurant serves gourmet sandwiches, salads and house-made soups. Triangle restaurateur and real estate developer <strong>Drew Schenck<\/strong> and longtime downtown Raleigh mixologist <strong>Kevin Barrett<\/strong> are behind the project. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/Hadleys-483684668485888\/\" target=\"_blank\">Check out Hadley&#8217;s on Facebook here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div>Also in Raleigh, there&#8217;s a new social house in North Raleigh&#8217;s <strong>Stonehenge Shopping Center<\/strong> called <strong>Serena Society<\/strong>. It&#8217;s the newest concept from <strong>Giuseppe Cataldo<\/strong>, and it is tucked behind his Italian restaurant, <strong>Serena Cucina<\/strong>. <strong>Serena Society<\/strong> serves Sicilian-inspired street fare. <strong>Cataldo<\/strong> also owns <strong>Serena Gastropub<\/strong> in Durham. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/SerenaNorthRaleigh\" target=\"_blank\">Check out all of his concepts on Facebook here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div>And we got word this week that Raleigh&#8217;s iconic <strong>IHOP<\/strong> on Hillsborough Street will complete its &#8220;move down the street&#8221; when it opens on <strong>April 4th<\/strong> on the ground level of <strong>The Stanhope Student Apartments<\/strong> project. Now is as good a time as any to remind everyone that <strong>Tuesday, March 8th<\/strong> is <strong>National Pancake Day<\/strong>. Seriously.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div>Over in Cary, <strong>Newk&#8217;s Eatery<\/strong> announced this week that they will officially open next <strong>Monday, March 7th<\/strong>. Located in the former <strong>Hibernian Pub<\/strong> location on Kildaire Farm Road, this will mark their first restaurant in the Triangle. If you are not familiar with <strong>Newk&#8217;s<\/strong>, they offer Southern-inspired, made-from-scratch soups, sandwiches, salads and pizzas for lunch and dinner. This will be their 98th location in the Southeast. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.newks.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Check them out here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div>Also in Cary, <strong>Brew Coffee Bar<\/strong>, with its original location in Raleigh&#8217;s <strong>Seaboard Station<\/strong>, opened a second location inside <strong>The Cary Theater<\/strong>. They will be open seven days a week. Congrats to <strong>A.J. Viola<\/strong> and <strong>Mike Sholar<\/strong> on their continued success. Located at at 104 N. Churton St., <strong>Bona Fide<\/strong> is brought to us by <strong>Matt Fox<\/strong> and <strong>Dean James<\/strong>, the same folks behind <strong>The Wooden Nickel Pub, LaPlace <\/strong>and<strong> Hillsborough BBQ Company<\/strong>. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bonafidesandwich.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Check out Bona Fide here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div>Just a reminder that after 8 years <strong>Six Plates<\/strong> in Durham will close next Friday, <strong>March 11th<\/strong> in order to renovate for the new cider-focused restaurant to be called <strong>Black Twig Cider House<\/strong>. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.blacktwigciderhouse.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Check out Black Twig here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div>An update to the news last week that <strong>City Beverage<\/strong> in south Durham closed. The <strong>News &amp; Observer<\/strong> reported that <strong>Hope Valley Brewing Co.<\/strong>, a new brewpub, will soon take over that space. The brewpub is the brainchild of <strong>Andrew Christenbury<\/strong>, the former head brewer at Durham&#8217;s <strong>G2B<\/strong> and currently one of the bartenders at <strong>Bar Virgile<\/strong> in downtown Durham. <strong>Christenbury<\/strong> partnered with <strong>Peter Michaels<\/strong> and <strong>Brad Strode<\/strong> on this concept. After the brewpub is open, he will work to convert the next door space (the former <strong>Lava Lounge<\/strong>) into a brewery. They hope to be open by St. Patrick&#8217;s Day. Stay tuned.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div>And another reminder that the newest location of <strong>Rise<\/strong>, this one in downtown Durham at 401 Foster St., will open a week from Saturday on <strong>March 12<\/strong>. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/risebiscuitsdonuts.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Check out Rise here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Closings<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div><strong>David McCreary<\/strong> (aka <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.lunchboysays.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">LunchBoy Says<\/a><\/span><\/strong>) informed me this week that <strong>Healthy Sweet Leaf Cafe<\/strong> in Fuquay Varina has closed their doors.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div>\u00a0On a recent drive past <strong>Eastgate Shopping Center<\/strong> in Chapel Hill, I noticed that the <strong>Boston Market<\/strong> there is empty and the signs are off the building. The adjacent BP gas station, is also empty. And not to mention the long-vacant former <strong>501 Diner<\/strong> space. Somethin&#8217;s a brewin&#8217;. We&#8217;ll keep an eye on it.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Food Trucks<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div>The <strong>News &amp; Observer<\/strong> reported this week that longtime Durham restaurateur <strong>Fergus Bradley<\/strong> and several partners are planning to launch the <strong>Mama&#8217;s Hot Chicken<\/strong> food truck, which will serve Nashville-style hot chicken, on <strong>April 15<\/strong>. <strong>Bradley<\/strong> expects the truck to be on the road for about a year but eventually land in a brick-and-mortar location. This unique event will feature foods prepared by the local chefs inspired by the cuisines of Raleigh&#8217;s Sister Cities: Nairobi, Kenya; Xiangyang, China; Rostock, Germany; Compiegne, France; and Kingston upon Hull.
