A bit of normalcy and pride will return to downtown Raleigh next week with the much-anticipated opening of <strong>Scott Crawford\u2019s Crawford &amp; Son<\/strong>. It will open this coming week, just a few months after he announced he was leaving <strong>Standard Foods<\/strong> for his own gig. His own kitchen. His own space. Raleigh is lucky to have kept <strong>Scott\u2019s<\/strong> talents and this will undoubtedly leave its mark for a long time on this little corner of Raleigh. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/Crawford-and-Son-132781803796473\/\" target=\"_blank\">Keep up with their announcements via their Facebook page here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Wake County Restaurant News<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Durham is sharing a little of their love with Wake County beginning next week &#8211; that is if you consider waffles smothered with chicken, warm syrup and powdered sugar as love! That\u2019s right, <strong>Dame\u2019s Chicken &amp; Waffles<\/strong> will open a location in Cary next Tuesday, adjacent to the Bass Pro Shop on Harrison Avenue in the former <strong>Firewurst<\/strong> location according to <strong>WRAL<\/strong>. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dameschickenwaffles.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Check out Dame&#8217;s here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The Raleigh Agenda<\/strong> reported this week that <strong>Tulum<\/strong>, a Mayan-themed restaurant, is coming to Fayetteville Street in early December and will fill the spot formerly occupied by <strong>La Volta<\/strong>, <strong>Twisted Mango<\/strong>, and most recently, <strong>San Lorenzo<\/strong> at 411 Fayetteville Street. Owner <strong>Alfredo Lara<\/strong> is known locally for the successful launch of two locations of <strong>Mi Cancun<\/strong>. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.raleighagenda.com\/5789\/tulum-mayan-themed-mexican-restaurant-coming-fayetteville-street\/\" target=\"_blank\">Check out the write-up here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Saw that <strong>New World Raleigh<\/strong> coffee shop, located in Raleigh on Pleasant Valley Road, has reopened after a week of major interior renovations (and a new logo). I haven\u2019t been by yet, but the pictures look amazing! They even hosted a latte \u201cthrow down\u201d last night. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/NewWorldRaleigh\/\" target=\"_blank\">Check out their new space here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Over in Cary, got word from reader <strong>Ashley Mills<\/strong> that effective immediately, the ownership of <strong>Academy Street Bistro<\/strong> has changed hands. Apparently, during the transition to new ownership, it is not open. Obviously this story is unfolding, so we will keep an eye on it. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/academystreetbistro\/\" target=\"_blank\">Here is their Facebook page with the announcement<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>News &amp; Observer<\/strong> reported this week that down in Holly Springs things are about to get a little sweeter as <strong>Mama Bird\u2019s Cookies + Cream<\/strong>, a new shop featuring handmade ice cream and treats, is set to open on Nov. 3 at 304 N. Main Street. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mamabirdsicecream.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Check them out here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>And a \u2018happy birthday\u2019 to Glenwood Avenue&#8217;s <strong>Plates Kitchen<\/strong> as they celebrate 3 years with a special Spanish Tapas party on the afternoon of <strong>November 5th<\/strong>. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.plateskitchen.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Check them out here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Durham, Orange &amp; Chatham Restaurant News<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Down in Chatham County, just over the county line from Chapel Hill, the second of four restaurants has opened in the new <strong>Veranda<\/strong> development at the 15-501 entrance to <strong>Briar Chapel<\/strong>. <strong>Capp\u2019s Apizza<\/strong> opened Thursday of this week featuring a few pizza specials including their Caponata and Pumpkin pizza. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cappsapizza.com\/Capps\/Welcome.html\" target=\"_blank\">Check it out here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The folks over at <strong>Bull McCabes Irish Pub<\/strong> in Durham announced this week that they have secured <strong>RJ St. John<\/strong> as their new executive chef. <strong>RJ<\/strong> has experience from the beaches of Sarasota, Florida, to New Orleans and even to a food truck right here in Durham. Look for him to raise the bar on \u201cpub grub.\u201d <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/bullmccabesirishpub.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Check them out here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Also in Durham, <strong>Northgate Mall<\/strong> announced the addition of <strong>Chef\u2019s House<\/strong> which will feature a variety of hand-breaded chicken, seafood and pork options cooked daily by <strong>Carmen and Paul Dascanio<\/strong>. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.northgatemall.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Visit Northgate Mall here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Closings<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div>Got word from multiple sources this week that Durham\u2019s <strong>Shrimp Boats<\/strong> is closing their doors at the end of business today (October 28).<strong> Shrimp Boats<\/strong> opened originally in 1970.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div>Also, the <strong>Triangle Business Journal<\/strong> reported this week that both <strong>510 Tavern<\/strong> and <strong>Raleigh Roadhouse<\/strong> (located in the <strong>510 Glenwood building<\/strong>) have been closed. That\u2019s less than a year for both of those.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div>And got word from reader <strong>Ashley Mills<\/strong> that <strong>Pita Bon<\/strong> on Kildaire Farm Road in Cary has also closed.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Food Trucks<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div>Thanks to a tip from reader <strong>Diane Dennis<\/strong>, I learned that there is a new food truck, <strong>Wicked Kitchen<\/strong>, that is making it&#8217;s area debut this weekend at <strong>Fainting Goat brewery<\/strong> in Fuquay. <strong>Wicked Kitchen<\/strong> transplanted from Baltimore and specializes in Maryland style crab amazement! \u00a0<strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/WickedKitchen1\/\" target=\"_blank\">Here&#8217;s a link to their Facebook page<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div>This <strong>Sunday, October 30th<\/strong> will feature the <strong>\u201cHalloween Weekend\u201d Food Truck Rodeo<\/strong> in <strong>Durham Central Park<\/strong> with over 50+ local food trucks, local craft beer, local artists and live music.
