This comes just months after a life-changing spinal cord injury he suffered at his home. <strong>Ballard<\/strong> opened the restaurant in 1998 and defined what true hospitality is, going above and beyond for friends, customers and neighbors and making everyone feel incredibly special. He was a gift to our community and made us all better. A reception for family and close friends will be held at the cafe on Sunday, August 30 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. An open reception for friends and neighbors will be held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, consider offering your support to Transitions Hospice, The Veterans Life Center or the Tunnel to Towers Foundation. The historic\u00a0<strong>Flowers Cottage<\/strong> is now open housing two concepts in one spot:\u00a0<strong>Cottage Coffee<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Park Bar<\/strong>\u00a0in\u00a0<strong>Dix Park<\/strong>. The renovated 100-year-old cottage boasts a cozy cafe inside as well as a covered outdoor bar. The upstairs cafe opens to an expansive deck featuring terraced seating that gives you a jaw-dropping view of the fields in\u00a0<strong>Dix Park<\/strong>\u00a0as well as Raleigh\u2019s expansive skyline in the distance. The magazine noted that this watering hole is like a time capsule of all your favorite old Raleigh bars, from <strong>Sadlack\u2019s Heroes<\/strong> and <strong>Brooklyn Heights<\/strong> to <strong>Pink Boot<\/strong> saying it as if \u201c<strong>Brooklyn Heights<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Pink Boot<\/strong>\u00a0had a baby.\u201d They also noted that there\u2019s a pool table, lounge areas and nostalgic signs galore. They are located at 1217 Hillsborough Street. Thanks to childhood friend <strong>James Satterwhite<\/strong> for bringing this to my attention. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Axios<\/strong> reported this week that <strong>Patrick Shanahan&#8217;s <\/strong>takeover\u00a0of <strong>The Exchange Raleigh<\/strong> development continues, as the\u00a0artist-turned-entrepreneur\u00a0prepares a new all-day cafe there. Following on the opening of restaurant\u00a0<strong>Peregrine<\/strong>\u00a0and the\u00a0<strong>Capulet Cocktail Club<\/strong>\u00a0he now has plans to open\u00a0<strong>Cafe Royale<\/strong>\u00a0there next month in the space formerly occupied by <strong>The Optimist<\/strong> coffee shop. It will share a courtyard with <strong>Capulet<\/strong>. It is designed to operate in the model of a Parisian cafe with customers lingering throughout the day enjoying espresso drinks, tea, champagne and dessert cocktails. Chatham Street. This will be their seventh location and follows the most recent opening in downtown Raleigh\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Seaboard Station<\/strong>. What does the\u00a0<strong>K38<\/strong>\u00a0represent? The \u201cK\u201d stands for kilometer, denoting the 38th-kilometer mark on the coastal highway in Baja. Founder\u00a0<strong>Josh Vach<\/strong>\u00a0was inspired by surf trips down the Baja Peninsula, roadside taco shacks, and the specific surf break at that location when opening the original restaurant in 1993. It is brought to us by <strong>Daniel Sartain<\/strong> who also owns\u00a0<strong>Bar Virgile<\/strong>\u00a0upstairs. The concept will feature two things for sure &#8211; stiff cocktails and more than 1,000 records (you might have to explain to your kids what those are). Here is a fun\/sweet fact: it is named after his daughter&#8217;s play kitchen. Some time next year (likely Spring 2027) <strong>Restaurant Cornelia<\/strong> will open &#8211; just not exactly sure where at this point. It is being touted as Michelin-level southern seasonal cuisine from the husband-and-wife team of <strong>Alex Catotti<\/strong> and <strong>Erin Kobler<\/strong> from Chicago. In addition to the restaurant, there will be a cafe-pastry shop-wine bar named <strong>The Vintner and The Baker<\/strong>. Same owner. Same team. They also shared that <strong>MunchiLove<\/strong> isn\u2019t going anywhere as you\u2019ll still be able to find them popping up around the Triangle. That said, they will still be around at local events.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <strong>News &amp; Observer<\/strong> shared that downtown Durham&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>It\u2019s a Southern Thing<\/strong> closed after opening in 2017 in the former <strong>Motto<\/strong> space.
