And if you thoroughly enjoyed handing off the cooking to someone else for Thanksgiving, then you\u2019ll know that there is nothing better than doing that again on Christmas day! So, the folks over at the <strong>News &amp; Observer<\/strong> have put together a list of restaurants (including a special Chinese restaurant section) <strong>open on December 25th<\/strong>. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.newsobserver.com\/living\/food-drink\/mouthful-blog\/article119117893.html\" target=\"_blank\">Check it out here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>, but get your reservations in early!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Also, Raleigh\u2019s <strong>Q Shack<\/strong> is doing locally raised, all natural fresh turkeys, hams and brisket and meals packed for reheating, for those that want to stay home, but don\u2019t want to do the cooking. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.theqshack.com\/Holidays.aspx?utm_source=Campaign+Created+2016%2F12%2F04%2C+9%3A12+PM&amp;utm_campaign=2016+Christmas+Email+&amp;utm_medium=email\" target=\"_blank\">Get all those details on that here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Wake County Restaurant News<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>In what may be one of the most visually stunning spaces I\u2019ve ever seen for a restaurant, <strong>Lou Moshakos<\/strong> and his star-studded team announced this week that they will open the Mediterranean-inspired concept <strong>Vidrio<\/strong> on <strong>January 23<\/strong>. It is located on the first and second floors of the 500 Glenwood Avenue building which <strong>Moshakos<\/strong> owns and also houses his <strong>Carolina Ale House<\/strong> on the third floor. A few of his \u201cteam\u201d include executive chef <strong>Ian Sullivan<\/strong>, previously with the<strong> University Club<\/strong> in Durham and the <strong>Urban Food Group<\/strong>, as well as chef de cuisine <strong>Saif Rahman<\/strong>, previously of <strong>21c Museum and Hotel<\/strong>, also in Durham. James Beard-nominated best restaurateur <strong>Giorgios Bakatsias<\/strong> also consulted on <strong>Vidrio<\/strong>. It is going to be spectacular! <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.vidrioraleigh.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Check it out here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>Triangle Business Journal<\/strong> reported that <strong>Chopt Creative Salad Company<\/strong> is coming to Raleigh\u2019s <strong>Cameron Village<\/strong> with plans to open today, <strong>Dec. 9<\/strong> at 420 Daniels St., near <strong>Village Draft House<\/strong>. This will be the Triangle\u2019s first <strong>Chopt<\/strong> location, with a second location already announced for Chapel Hill\u2019s <strong>Eastgate Crossing<\/strong>. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/choptsalad.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Check out Chopt here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Also in Raleigh, if you stroll past 219 Fayetteville Street you will notice the brown paper is off the windows of the former <strong>Bolt<\/strong> location revealing the redesign as it transforms into <strong>Pizza La Stella<\/strong> &#8211; it is absolutely gorgeous. <strong>David Sadeghi<\/strong> and managing partner <strong>Rudy Theale<\/strong> have done an incredible job transforming that space. Not much yet <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/pizzalastella.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">on their website here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>, but the opening is just around the corner. Stay tuned.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>In downtown Raleigh, the much anticipated opening of <strong>Tobacco Road Sports Cafe<\/strong> (which closed their Glenwood Avenue location to move around the corner into the former <strong>Natty Greene\u2019s<\/strong> location at 505 W. Jones Street) is not far off. They posted on their Facebook page that they are planning to open later this month. Keep up with the latest <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/TobaccoRoadSportsCafe\/\" target=\"_blank\">on their Facebook page here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The Charlotte-based breakfast and lunch restaurant concept called <strong>Famous Toastery<\/strong> has plans for several locations in the Triangle in 2017. Their next location will open in March in Morrisville at <strong>Weston Corners Shopping Center<\/strong>. That will be followed by two more locations later in 2017, one in Holly Springs at the <strong>Holly Springs Town Center<\/strong> (right next to <strong>Blaze Pizza<\/strong>) and the other in Garner at the <strong>White Oak Shopping Center<\/strong>. <strong>Toast Cafe<\/strong> (same concept) is already open in Cary\u2019s <strong>Waverly Place<\/strong>. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.famoustoastery.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Check out Famous Toastery here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Got word that the guys from the locally owned <strong>Woody&#8217;s Sports Tavern &amp; Grill<\/strong> in Cary and <strong>Woody\u2019s at City Market<\/strong> in downtown Raleigh have opened a new hybrid concept bottleshop\/bar\/restaurant called <strong>BottleDog Bites &amp; Brews<\/strong> at the <strong>Center 54<\/strong> shopping center in the space behind <strong>Maximillian&#8217;s<\/strong> on Chapel Hill Rd in Cary (soft opening beginning today, <strong>December 9th<\/strong>). Thanks to owner <strong>Shawn Whisnant<\/strong> for the information. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.woodysportstavern.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Visit Woody&#8217;s Sports Tavern here<\/a><\/span><\/strong> and <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/woodyscitymarket.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Woody&#8217;s at City Market here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Also in Cary, <strong>Academy Street Bistro<\/strong> is up and flying under the new ownership of <strong>Tom Havrish<\/strong> who also owns<strong> Lugano Ristorante<\/strong>. They have a new logo and are adding new menu items. The have additional locations in Morrisville, Raleigh and Durham. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.anotherbrokenegg.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Check them out here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>And one more Cary announcement, reader <strong>Chris Creighton<\/strong> informed me that the second location of <strong>Johnny\u2019s Pizza<\/strong> is now open in <strong>Cornerstone Village<\/strong> (intersection of Davis &amp; High House) where <strong>Z Pizza<\/strong> used to be. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.johnnyspizzacary.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Check out Johnny&#8217;s here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Up in Wake Forest, got word from <strong>WRAL<\/strong> that <strong>The Empanada Factory<\/strong>, Latin street food, \u00a0opened this past week with a soft opening at 2010 S. Main Street (near the intersection with Ligon Mill Road). There is not much up on their website, <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/TheEmpanadaFactoryWF\/\" target=\"_blank\">so check them out on Facebook here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Durham, Orange &amp; Chatham Restaurant News<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Let\u2019s just say the beautiful and talented <strong>Lori Bowers-Lennard<\/strong> is excited about this next bit of news (as am I). The <strong>News &amp; Observer<\/strong> reported this week that <strong>Acme Food &amp; Beverage Company\u2019s Kevin Callaghan<\/strong> will open <strong>Atlas Taco Bar<\/strong> in the new South Green development on Carrboro\u2019s Greensboro Street, just off Highway 54. Also in that development will be a nano-brewery and bottle shop called <strong>Gimghoul Brewing &amp; Bottle Company<\/strong>. They also announced that 40% of the tenants will be restaurants. The bad news is they don\u2019t break ground until June of next year and expect a 22 month build-out. Good things come to those who wait&#8230;I guess.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>A few more details this week thanks to the <strong>News &amp; Observer<\/strong> regarding the Chapel Hill location of <strong>Guglhupf<\/strong>. Looking to open in April, 2017 in <strong>Eastgate Crossing<\/strong>, the <strong>Guglhupf Bake Shop<\/strong> will focus on fresh pastries, bread and specialty baked goods while also offering choice provisions and coffee service. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/guglhupf.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Stay tuned and check out Guglhupf here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Also in Chapel Hill, the <strong>Daily Tar Heel<\/strong> reported that <strong>La Residence<\/strong> will reopen on January 5th. A fire back in June caused the popular Chapel Hill establishment to temporarily close. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.laresidencedining.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Check them out here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Over in Durham, <strong>Luna Rotisserie &amp; Empanadas<\/strong> is looking to spread a little love, at least (if not more) on the <strong>second Tuesday of each month<\/strong>. In light of a recent uptick in actions of hate, they will donate 10% of the proceeds each second Tuesday to organizations that provide direct support to disenfranchised and marginalized groups here in Durham. We say kudos! While the name will be changing the concept and menu will stay pretty much the same. Stay tuned.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>And down in Chatham County, got word that just four weeks after opening, the <strong>Breakaway Cafe<\/strong> will begin offering a dinner menu on <strong>December 14th<\/strong>.
