But that bit of sad news quickly turned to the news that <strong>Pete Susca<\/strong> is coming into that space with a concept called <strong>It\u2019s a Southern Thing: Kitchen and Bar<\/strong>. <strong>Pete<\/strong> was <strong>Motto\u2019s<\/strong> bar manager and previously ran <strong>LaRussa\u2019s<\/strong> in Chapel Hill\u2019s Meadowmont. <strong>Matt Kulp<\/strong> will be the chef &#8211; he had stints with <strong>McCormick &amp; Schmick\u2019s<\/strong>, <strong>Garland<\/strong> in downtown Raleigh and the former <strong>Zely &amp; Ritz<\/strong> on Glenwood Avenue. Look for them to open in 6-8 weeks with a southern-focused menu. Thanks to <strong>Michael DePersia<\/strong> of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rdubrokers.com\/\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><b>DePersia &amp; Associates<\/b> <\/span><\/a>who represented the sale.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Wake County Restaurant News<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Bill King tweeted last week that <strong>Tulum Mexican Restaurante &amp; Bar<\/strong> is now open in the former <strong>La Volta<\/strong> space at 411 Fayetteville Street in <strong>City Plaza<\/strong>. Looks like they opened on July 25th. <a href=\"http:\/\/tulummexican.com\/\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><b>Check them out here<\/b><\/span><\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Also in downtown Raleigh, this weekend is the official \u201cGrand Opening\u201d celebration for <strong>MOFU Shoppe<\/strong> in <strong>City Market<\/strong>. Stop by anytime (check their hours on their website), but they will also be debuting their late night menu (served 11 p.m. til 2 a.m.). Still being built, but they just put the <strong>Outback<\/strong> signs up this past week. This week we got word from <strong>David McCreary<\/strong> that it has in fact opened at 1313 N. Franklin Street (and it is not pizza!). <strong>The Purple Bowl<\/strong>, at 306 W. Franklin Street, features acai bowls and toast. And did we mention healthy and oh so yummy! Can\u2019t wait to get by and check it out! Chapel Hill Street. OK, I misread one of our reader emails last week. There was never a <strong>Golden Corral<\/strong> in Holly Springs, but there was a <strong>Highway 55 Burger<\/strong>. But it closed. Sorry about the error (it was so cool to see how many people emailed\/tweeted me &#8211; you folks rock!).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Got word from reader <strong>Samantha Leach<\/strong> that Raleigh\u2019s <strong>Tasca Brava<\/strong> was not renewing their lease. It was confirmed this week on their Facebook page, simply posting, \u201cWith great sorrow, after sixteen years, <strong>Tasca Brava<\/strong> lost.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>And over in Durham, <strong>TGI Fridays<\/strong> on Erwin Road has closed.
