Hargett Street. It concluded the year being featured on NBC. Can\u2019t think of a better representation of the Triangle spirit in general, and the spirit of the locally owned and operated restaurants we are blessed with here. <a href=\"https:\/\/tableraleigh.org\/\"><strong>\u201cPay\u201d them a visit in 2019<\/strong><\/a>! &nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-medium-font-size has-vivid-red-color\"><strong>Top Wake County News of 2018<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After multiple delays, <strong>Morgan Street Food Hall<\/strong> in downtown Raleigh\u2019s warehouse district opened following on the heels (pun intended) of <strong>Blue Dogwood Public Market<\/strong> food hall in Chapel Hill, and will be followed by another in downtown Raleigh &#8211; <strong>Transfer Co. Food Hall<\/strong> &#8211; as well as one in Durham &#8211; <strong>Durham Food Hall<\/strong> &#8211; opening in 2019. &nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.morganfoodhall.com\/\"><strong>Check out Morgan Street here<\/strong><\/a>.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The legendary, 88-year-old <strong>Mecca Restaurant<\/strong> was sold to <strong>Greg Hatem<\/strong> and became part of the <strong>Empire Eats<\/strong> family (<strong>Gravy<\/strong>, <strong>Sitti<\/strong>, <strong>The Pit Raleigh<\/strong>, <strong>The Pit Durham<\/strong>, <strong>The Raleigh Times<\/strong>, and <strong>The Morning Times<\/strong>). <strong>Hatem<\/strong> is a long-time friend of the <strong>Doumbalis<\/strong> family and has vowed, after some needed updates, to keep things pretty much the same. Congrats on a successful transition of a downtown institution! <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mecca-restaurant.com\/\"><strong>Keep up with Mecca here<\/strong><\/a>.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Lynnwood Brewing Concern<\/strong>, which operates a grill and taproom in North Raleigh and a brewery and bar at <strong>Dock 1053<\/strong> on East Whitaker Mill Road, opened their newest restaurant called <strong>Wilson\u2019s Eatery<\/strong> featuring locally sourced, scratch made sandwiches, flatbreads and salads and \u201cseveral house-made sodas &amp; mixers\u201d in their craft cocktails. <a href=\"https:\/\/wilsonseatery.com\/\"><strong>Visit their website here<\/strong><\/a>.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We enjoyed the much-anticipated opening of <strong>Big Dom\u2019s Bagel Shop<\/strong> in downtown Cary in the former <strong>Little Caesars<\/strong> space. It is a grab and go bagel shop offering bagels, biscuits and b\u2019donuts and is brought to us by the folks that also own <strong>Pizzeria Faulisi<\/strong>. It is located at 203 E. Chatham Street. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bigdomsbagelshop.com\/\"><strong>Check them out here<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-medium-font-size has-vivid-red-color\"><strong>Top Durham County News of 2018<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shortly after the <strong>Old Havana Sandwich Shop<\/strong> in Durham ended a seven-year run, the husband and wife team of <strong>Roberto Copa Matos<\/strong> and <strong>Elizabeth Turnbull<\/strong> opened a farm-to-table Cuban restaurant <strong>Copa<\/strong> at 107 West Main Street in the larger, renovated former <strong>Revolution<\/strong> spot. The lunch menu is the <strong>Old Havana<\/strong> you may be familiar with, but the dinner menu is where <strong>Copa<\/strong> separates itself from <strong>Old Havana<\/strong>, with a menu comprised largely of tapas and small plates. <a href=\"https:\/\/copadurham.com\/\"><strong>Get to know them here<\/strong><\/a>.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you had also been dreaming about a rotating mini-food truck venue\u2026every day\u2026with a full service beer garden (30 beers on tap) and a place to enjoy it all (indoor and outdoor), then you were just as excited as I was with the opening of <strong>County Fare<\/strong> at 1920 Chapel Hill Road. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.countyfaredurham.com\/\"><strong>Keep up with their schedule and get all the details here<\/strong><\/a>.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Hutchins Garage<\/strong> opened in the <strong>Central Park District<\/strong> at 402 W. Geer Street in Durham. Pizza and beer top the list of great options there as well as a very cool atmosphere. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/Hutchins-Garage-1791896040902139\/\"><strong>Check them out on Facebook here<\/strong><\/a>.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Eastcut Sandwich Bar<\/strong> slid into the former<strong> Finch\u2019s<\/strong> spot (3211 Old Chapel Hill Road) They serve up East Coast sandwich fare, salads, small plates, soups, sweets, and beer, wine and limited cocktails. The establishment is very family friendly and they even allow dogs on their deck. A great new Durham spot. <a href=\"https:\/\/eastcutsandwich.com\/\"><strong>Check them out here<\/strong><\/a>.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Deeluxe Chicken<\/strong> opened in the former <strong>Oval Park Grille<\/strong> spot at 1116 Broad St. by chefs <strong>Scott Howell<\/strong> and <strong>Rick Robinson<\/strong>, who first met nearly 30 years ago working together at Durham\u2019s <strong>Magnolia Grill<\/strong>. The menu is built around fried chicken, of course, with dark and light quarters served with a side. <a href=\"https:\/\/deeluxechicken.com\/\"><strong>Check them out here<\/strong><\/a>.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Saleh<\/strong> family brought its newest <strong>Neomonde Mediterranean Deli<\/strong> to downtown Durham in the <strong>Unscripted Hotel<\/strong> building at 202 Corcoran St. As most know, <strong>Neomonde<\/strong> has locations in Raleigh and Morrisville. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.neomondebakery.com\"><strong>Get familiar with them here<\/strong><\/a>.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The latest addition to the <strong>M Restaurant Group<\/strong> in Durham came to life with the opening of <strong>M Tempura<\/strong> located in the former downtown <strong>Scratch Bakery<\/strong> location at 111 Orange Street. Chef <strong>Michael Lee\u2019s<\/strong> other restaurants include nearby<strong> M Sushi<\/strong> and <strong>M Kokko<\/strong>. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.m-restaurants.com\/m-tempura\"><strong>Get to know M Tempura here<\/strong><\/a>.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is a new place to get your morning brew in South Durham with the opening of <strong>People\u2019s Coffee<\/strong> located at the intersection of 751 and Renaissance Parkway, behind <strong>Bonefish Grill<\/strong> and beside<strong> Town Hall Burger and Beer<\/strong>. Brought to us by <strong>Jordan Wells<\/strong> and <strong>David Sadeghi<\/strong>, the concept features coffee from <strong>Black &amp; White Coffee Roasters<\/strong>, pastries and such from <strong>Strong Arm Baking Co.<\/strong>, and a grab-and-go menu and cold-pressed juice offerings from <strong>Cold Off The Press<\/strong>. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pplscoffee.com\/\"><strong>Get familiar with them here<\/strong><\/a>.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-medium-font-size has-vivid-red-color\"><strong>Top Orange County News of 2018<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Franklin Street\u2019s legendary <strong>Spanky\u2019s <\/strong>\u201cretired\u201d and was repurposed under the<strong> Chapel Hill Restaurant Group\u2019s umbrella as<\/strong> <strong>Lula\u2019s<\/strong> &#8211; a Southern restaurant featuring really good fried chicken, porkchops, short ribs, farm-to-table vegetables, freshly squeezed lemonade, homemade biscuits and mint juleps. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chapelhillrestaurantgroup.com\/\"><strong>Check out the Chapel Hill Restaurant Group here<\/strong><\/a><strong>.<\/strong><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Fusion Fish<\/strong>, the global Asian fusion restaurant featuring sushi, spirits and cocktails, opened in the former <strong>One<\/strong> spot in Chapel Hill\u2019s <strong>Meadowmont<\/strong>. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/fusionfish\/\"><strong>You can find them on Facebook here<\/strong><\/a>.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Award-winning <strong>Oakleaf<\/strong> restaurant has successfully completed their move (after a temporary &#8220;stay-over&#8221; with their sister restaurant, <strong>Alberello<\/strong>) from quaint Pittsboro to hip downtown Carrboro. They opened in the spot adjacent to the Cats Cradle and in the same building as Fleet Feet and <strong>Rise Donuts<\/strong>. <a href=\"https:\/\/oakleafnc.com\/\"><strong>Check out their new space here<\/strong><\/a>.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Crunkleton\u2019s Gary Crunkleton<\/strong> is expanding his empire following the news that he would be part of the new ownership of <strong>Crook\u2019s Corner<\/strong> &#8211; he has now partnered with <strong>Sam Suchow<\/strong>, the owner of the barbecue restaurant <strong>The Pig<\/strong>, and opened <strong>The Neighborhood Bar<\/strong> right next to <strong>The Pig<\/strong> on Weaver Dairy Road in north Chapel Hill. The space is absolutely gorgeous and inviting with three large garage doors that open to an expansive outside dining area. While the building is certainly new, the menu is just like their customers remember \u2013 nothing changed there! <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sushinine.com\/\"><strong>Check them out here<\/strong><\/a>. <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Smashed Waffles<\/strong> (all waffles, all the time) opened at 2304 Hillsborough Street, directly across from NC State. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smashedwaffles.com\/\"><strong>Check out the Greenville-based concept here<\/strong><\/a>.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tonbo Ramen<\/strong>, brought to us by the owners of <strong>Kanki<\/strong>, opened in the <strong>Moore Square District<\/strong> at 211 S. Wilmington Street in downtown Raleigh serving up quintessential Japanese ramen dishes, such as Tonkotsu, Shio and Shoyu. Also they have an upstairs Izakaya bar, their version of a Japanese speakeasy, where you can enjoy craft cocktails and small plates, offering the unique flavors of Japan. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tonboramen.com\/\"><strong>Check them out here<\/strong><\/a>.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>CO<\/strong>, offering a modern take on traditional Southeast Asian cuisine, moved into the <strong>AC Hotel at North Hills<\/strong> adding to their locations in Charleston, Charlotte, Atlanta, Savannah and Myrtle Beach. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eatatco.com\/\"><strong>Get familiar with them here<\/strong><\/a>.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Chronic Tacos<\/strong> opened their Raleigh location at 9424 Falls of the Neuse Road (same shopping center as Sprouts Farmers Market) in early 2018. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chronictacos.com\/raleigh\"><strong>Check them out here<\/strong><\/a>.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Alamo Drafthouse Cinema<\/strong> opened its first Triangle location at 2116 New Bern Avenue, but its not just a movie theatre and beer (although those are two great things), they also serve up great food and free movie rentals &#8211; 75,000 titles! <a href=\"https:\/\/drafthouse.com\/raleigh\"><strong>Get familiar with them here<\/strong><\/a>.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Wahlburger\u2019s<\/strong> finally opened in the former <strong>Oxford<\/strong> space&#8230;and just closed, seven months later. <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Seoul 116 Korean Kitchen &amp; Bar<\/strong>, <strong>City Market Sushi\u2019s<\/strong> sister restaurant, opened in the former <strong>More. Kitchen &amp; Wine Bar<\/strong> space at 116 N West St. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/seoul116\/\"><strong>Get familiar with them on Facebook here<\/strong><\/a>.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Happy + Hale<\/strong> opened in the <strong>Park Central<\/strong> building in <strong>North Hills<\/strong> serving up salads, juices and smoothies. The newest location offers a larger indoor seating area, outdoor patio seating, and brunch on the weekends. The caf\u00e9 serves up handmade from scratch gelato using local milk, espresso based drinks with <strong>Counter Culture<\/strong> beans, teas from Sangha Tea and local craft beer on draft.
