Impress your co-workers at the water cooler.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-vivid-red-color\"><strong>Featured Restaurant News<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>&nbsp;While we first reported this in October of last year, <strong>Big Ed\u2019s<\/strong> officially announced on January 3, 2019 that they are indeed opening a third location, this one in Garner at 231 Timber Drive (near intersection with Hwy. 50) in the former <strong>Just Cookin\u2019<\/strong> location (Food Lion shopping center). No exact date, just \u201cearly 2019\u201d according to their Facebook page. And they announced <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bigedsnc.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a new website here<\/a>. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-vivid-red-color\"><strong>Wake County Restaurant News<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Got word from reader <strong>Mark Ginsberg<\/strong> that <strong>Jaipur Indian Cuisine<\/strong> has opened at 1520 Blue Ridge Rd in Raleigh inside of the <strong>Ramada Inn<\/strong>. They are the sister restaurant of Sitar India in Durham. <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/jaipurraleigh.com\/\">Get to know them here<\/a>. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>First got word from one of our readers (\u201c<strong>Patrick<\/strong>\u201d) that <strong>Brookside Pizza &amp; Market<\/strong> at the corner of Brookside Drive and Glascock Street near downtown Raleigh closed. And we have confirmed what <strong>Patrick<\/strong> had heard &#8211; that<strong> Falafel and Company<\/strong> will be opening in the <strong>Brookside<\/strong> spot. You can get to know Falafel and Company <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/falafelandco\/\">on their Facebook page here<\/a>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Over off Hillsborough Street, got word from <strong>Katherine W.<\/strong> that <strong>Sushi Mon<\/strong>, a new sushi restaurant located on Friendly Dr, has opened. And during the month of January they are celebrating their opening by offering complimentary nigiri to all their dinner dine-in customers. Get to know them and see their grand opening offer <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/Sushi-Mon-329870230935363\/\">on their Facebook page here<\/a>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Up in North Raleigh, <strong>John Huisman<\/strong>, aka <strong>Triangle Explorer<\/strong>, was the first to point out that <strong>13 Tacos and Taps<\/strong> is moving into the old <strong>Chubby Tacos<\/strong> location in the plaza on Durant Road adjacent to <strong>Nantucket Grill<\/strong>. It is being brought to us by the same folks behind the very popular food truck , the <strong>13th Taco<\/strong>. According to a Facebook page they are looking to open on January 17th, but stay tuned and keep up with any announcements <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/13-Tacos-Taps-361992484366640\">on their Facebook page here<\/a>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Over in Morrisville, reader <strong>Wesley Mays<\/strong> informed us that<strong> Pho X.O.<\/strong>, serving up traditional Vietnamese cuisine, has opened at at 10290 Chapel Hill Rd. <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.phoxonc.com\/\">Check them out here<\/a>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>And in Cary, saw on their Facebook page that <strong>Dean\u2019s Kitchen + Bar<\/strong> (which changed ownership last year) is transitioning the concept into a <strong>Biergarten<\/strong> at the end of this month. They will continue to have the Sunday brunch and they will keep many guest favorites, but the new menu will focus on locally sourced fresh ingredients including some German influenced items. No indication as of yet as to what the new name might be. <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/DeansKitchenandBar\/\">Keep up with the transition on their Facebook page here<\/a>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>And down in Holly Springs, I noticed a sign for <strong>Eggs Up Grill<\/strong> at 4200 Lassiter Road in the same complex as the next location of <strong>The Butcher\u2019s Market<\/strong>. This will be their second Triangle area location (one in Fuquay-Varina). <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.eggsupgrill.com\/\">Get to know them here<\/a>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-vivid-red-color\"><strong>Durham, Orange &amp; Chatham Restaurant News<\/strong><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>\u00a0The lovely and talented <strong>Lori Bowers-Lennard<\/strong> was the first to inform me that chef <strong>Brandon Sharp<\/strong> will open <strong>Hawthorne &amp; Wood<\/strong> in 2019 in former <strong>Raaga<\/strong> spot in Chapel Hill&#8217;s <strong>East 54<\/strong>. You can visit <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/hawthorneandwood.com\/\">their website here<\/a> and keep up on <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/hwtestkitchen8\/\">their progress on Instagram here<\/a>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Also in Chapel Hill, next to the new <strong>Monterrey Mexican<\/strong> restaurant location in Chapel Hill\u2019s R<strong>ams Plaza<\/strong>, <strong>Mr. Tokyo Japanese Restaurant<\/strong> has opened. Most notably on their website is that they offer an unlimited sushi and hibachi menu for lunch and dinner. <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/mrtokyojapanese.com\/chapel-hill\/\">Check them out here<\/a>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Over in Hillsborough reader <strong>Cathy Wells<\/strong> provided me with a quick update on a couple of happenings in that corner of Orange County. First up, <strong>J&amp;F Kitchen<\/strong> opened back in the spring at 155 Mayo Street and is a family-run restaurant serving up a homestyle mix of American, Italian, and Balkan cuisine. <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/JF-Kitchen-326118851235455\/\">Check them out<\/a>. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>And <strong>Cathy<\/strong> shared that <strong>House at Gatewood<\/strong> opened in December where chef Ron and team are building a complex where innovation meets Southern comfort on the <strong>Gatewood Estate<\/strong> at 300 Route 70. <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/houseatgatewood\/\">Check out this latest addition to the Triangle line-up here<\/a>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Just over the Durham County line we got word from <strong>Bites of Bull City\u2019s Amber Watson<\/strong> that over the holidays <strong>Namu Durham<\/strong> expanded by adding\/opening a new beer hall adjacent to their restaurant\/cafe. Now it is a great place to enjoy drinks along with their flavorful Korean food adjacent to their cozy restaurant and outdoor garden. <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.namudurham.com\/\">Get to know all about them here<\/a>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>And on more somber note, we were saddened to learn the news that <strong>Lowell Thomas \u201cTommy\u201d Bullock<\/strong>, who owned and operated <strong>Bullock&#8217;s Bar-B-Cue<\/strong> restaurant and catering business after his father opened the restaurant in 1952, \u00a0died over the holidays. Our prayers and thoughts are with the entire <strong>Bullock<\/strong> family. <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bullocks-bbq.com\/\">Bullock&#8217;s is a Durham institution<\/a>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-vivid-red-color\"><strong>Closings<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Got word from reader <strong>Jeanette Hauser<\/strong> that it looks like<strong> Toppers Pizza<\/strong> has retreated from the area &#8211; with all Triangle area locations now closed (once had three locations).<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Got a tweet from <strong>Jane Bell<\/strong> that the <strong>Pharaoh\u2019s at the Museum<\/strong> (Museum of History) on Edenton Street has closed.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>And unless you were under a rock over the holidays, the seven-month-old <strong>Wahlburger\u2019s<\/strong> in downtown Raleigh closed. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-vivid-red-color\"><strong>Events<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>\u00a0An annual favorite &#8211; <strong>Cooking for a Classic 2019<\/strong> &#8211; is just around the corner. The prize for 2019 \u00a0is restored 1982 JEEP Scrambler. The First Round is Monday-Thursday, <strong>Feb. 25-28<\/strong>; Second Round is <strong>March 4 and 5<\/strong>; and the Finale is <strong>March 11<\/strong>.
